Dass Klänge fliegen können hört man spätestens, wenn man bei der nächstbesten Hausecke mit gespitzten Ohren ein paar Mal hin und her geht. Dann entpuppt sich ein gewöhnlicher Hinterhof als unerwartet feinsinniges Hörlabyrinth. Wenn wir uns zufälligerweise im Innenhof des MusemsQuartiers in Wien befinden, werden unserem Ohr die Echospiegelungen eines der weltschönsten öffentlichen Klangräume vorgeführt. Eben der Lärmwüste der Stadt entronnen, befinden wir uns hier in einem wahren Hörparadies. Noch ist unser Alltagsohr hörmüde, wir brauchen ein paar Augenblicke und ein paar Klangimpulse von oben und wir sind bereit den Flugbahnen der Echos zu folgen.
Genau dazu lädt Sie das Projekt KLANGHIMMEL MQ ein, das für den Sommer 2011 den grossen Innenhof des MQ mit einem feinen Netz von durchsichtigen Klangobjekten überspannt und die glatten Fassaden der modernen Museen mit den barocken Steinreliefs der ehemaligen kaiserlichen Hofstallungen verbindet. Auf einem unsichtbaren, aber hörbaren Gewölbe ziehen synchron zu den Windbewegungen und im Gegentakt zur Alltagschoreographie der Menschen auf dem Platz einzelne Klänge, kaum hörbares Geflüster, Ausschnitte oder ganze Klangkompositionen ihre Bahnen.
Die räumliche Beweglichkeit der Klänge provoziert das Gefühl, dass die Klänge selber hören können und sich den Weg immer wieder neu suchen. Diesen luftigen Tanz der Klänge könnte man als Choreophonie bezeichnen. Ein Team von Klangkünstlern, Klangregisseuren, Musikern und NetzradioredakteurInnen steuern und warten den KLANGHIMMEL MQ. Jederzeit können sie sich vor Ort via Laptop ins Netzwerk des KLANGHIMMELs einloggen, oder es von Ferne betreuen und neu konfigurieren.
Wenn Sie im kommenden Sommer mitten in der Nacht mitten in Wien ein nahezu unhörbares KLANGHIMMEL-Stück hören, dann sind ihre klanghalluzinatorischen Fähigkeiten ganz ausserordentlich hoch entwickelt! Genaue Zeiten und Orte wo Klangschattenflüge genau stattfinden werden, sind nur gerüchteweise zu erfahren. Wer die Klangflüge im MQ aber zu deuten weiss, kann überall Hörhöhenflüge erleben!

That sounds can fly can be heard when one walks, with ears peeled, past the next corner of a building back and forth a couple of times. Do this, and an ordinary rear courtyard proves to be an unexpectedly subtle acoustic labyrinth. When we happen to find ourselves in the inner courtyard of the Museumsquartier in Vienna, the reflected echoes of one of the most beautiful public acoustic spaces in the world perform for our ear. Having just escaped from the noisy wilderness of the city, we find ourselves in a paradise of sound here. Our everyday capacity to hear is weary, we need a couple of moments and a couple of pulsing sounds from above and we are ready to follow the echoes’ trajectories.
It is to precisely this that the project KLANGHIMMEL MQ invites us to experience, a project that spans the large courtyard of the MQ for the summer of 2011 with a fine mesh of transparent sound objects, and links the smooth façade of the modern museums with the Baroque stone reliefs of the former imperial court stables. On an invisible but audible arc, individual sounds, hardly audible whispering, excerpts or complete sound compositions draw their trajectory, synchronised with the movement of the wind and in the to-and-fro of the everyday choreography of the people on the square.
The three-dimensional movement of sounds evokes the feeling that the sounds themselves can hear and are repeatedly searching for the path. This airy dance of sounds could be called a choreophony. A team of sound artists, conductors of sound, musicians and Internet radio operators control and maintain the KLANGHIMMEL MQ. They can log into the KLANGHIMMEL network anytime via laptop on location, or supervise and reconfigure it from a distance.
If in the coming summer, in the middle of the night in the middle of Vienna you hear an almost inaudible KLANGHIMMEL piece then your sound-hallucinatory abilities are extraordinarily highly developed! The precise times and locations where the sound shadows are being put to flight are only available as rumours. But anybody who knows how to interpret the flights of sound in the MQ can experience the skyrocketing of sound anywhere!
